The cult classic film series titled The Decline of Western Civilization, featuring music and appearances by Aerosmith, is set to be released on DVD and Blu-ray this summer. The three-part documentary focuses on the punk, rock and metal scenes in and around Los Angeles from the early 1980s through the 1990s. The series was directed by Penelope Spheeris, who is also known for Wayne’s World and Black Sheep. “I am so grateful to the fans of these films, and the bands that appeared in them, for their loyalty and patience,” she tells Rolling Stone. “This is my life’s work, and I like to think that when I go to my grave, The Decline is what I’ll be remembered for.” The new collection will feature special bonus footage including an interview with fellow rock doc maker Dave Grohl.
