Rush have been awarded the Juno Humanitarian Award this year. Frontman Geddy Lee was the only band member at the event, at which his band was introduced by his friend and Universal Music Canada president Randy Lennox, who said, “We salute you for the rare achievement of great personal and professional success without ever ever compromising your values.” He then accepted the Allan Waters Humanitarian award on behalf of bandmates Alex Lifeson and Neil Peart, saying he was grateful for the honor: “We are only a small part of every fundraising activity that we have chosen to be involved in. There are the working parts, the people of our office and our management set up that are the ones that really do the heavy lifting, as well as the many and various good hearted and much less famous volunteers who lend their time and efforts to the sole purpose of wanting to be part of something that feels like the right thing to do.” The band have a history of charitable action, including working for human rights, food banks, and health initiatives, as well as donating $1 from every ticket sale in recent tours to charitable organizations.
