The Velvet Underground: The Complete Matrix Tapes, a four-disc box set comprised of The Velvet Underground’s 1969 residency at The Matrix, a small club in San Francisco, will be released on November 20. Recorded on a tape deck by band guitarist Robert Quine, the 42-track The Velvet Underground: The Complete Matrix Tapes features material from a pair of gigs that took place at the Matrix during November 1969. Pitchfork reports that, while many of the tracks have been released before, the new collection features nine previously-unreleased recordings and marks the first time all of the tapes will be available as a unified release. The Velvet Underground will also reissue their 1970 album Loaded. The six-disc set, released to celebrate the LP’s 45th anniversary, is due out October 30 and will feature the original album remastered in stereo and mono, as well as previously-unreleased demos, outtakes and alternate mixes.
