James Taylor recently performed the French national anthem on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. Last week Taylor had performed an updated and humorous rendition of his song “Fire and Rain” on The Late Show. This week he returned with a more serious song, which was “La Marseillaise.” While he sang the song, Taylor sat in front of several of the country’s flags and was joined by Colbert’s house band, led by Jon Batiste. This performance came less than two weeks after the horrific Paris Attacks. The night of the attacks Colbert gave a heartfelt monologue on his show. “Folks, we end tonight’s show with a heavy heart because we taped all of tonight’s show and then found out about the horrific attacks in Paris today,” Colbert said.
