“Lazarus,” the title song from a new off-Broadway musical, will be featured on the upcoming David Bowie album, Blackstar. The inclusion of the track was only speculated on previously but never confirmed. Lazarus, the play, was written by Bowie and Edna Walsh, and previews at the New York Theatre Workshop on November 18. The play officially opens on December 7. Performances run through January 17. “The show,” according to Playbill, “features new songs specially composed by Bowie as well as new arrangements of previously recorded songs.” The plot centers on Michael C. Hall, who plays alcoholic alien Thomas Newton, the same character Bowie portrayed in The Man Who Fell to Earth. Blackstar, Bowie’s 25th studio album, lands January 16, Bowie’s 69th birthday.
