Come learn more about living green, and ways to reduce your monthly expenses, all while benefitting the environment at the Utah Green Festival. The Festival features alternative energy providers and local vendors showcasing their garden products and sustainability wares which will be available for sale. Admission and activities are absolutely FREE.
-Live music throughout the day, including performances by renowned singers and songwriters Peter Breinholt and Michael Masse.
-Carbon footprint quiz available for attendees to learn more about their carbon footprint and ways to reduce it.
-Kids' craft and science projects including: composting and creating reusable message boards, an obstacle course, a rock climbing wall, and face painting artists.
-Informative and fun green living workshops and demonstrations.

The Utah Chapter, Parents of Murdered Children, Inc, Board Members and volunteers invite survivors of homicide and the general public to attend the 2010 National Day of Remembrance for Murder Victims. The event will be held inside the International Peace Gardens, 1060 South 900 West, Salt Lake City, Utah on September 25, 2010 from 7:30-9:30 pm. A memorial program will include music, and a keynote address by Elka Fernandez, a survivor mom. There will be a reading of the names of Utah homicide victims. Community awards will be presented for outstanding commitment to the organization. A moment of silence along with lighting of candles, will conclude the program. The general public is invited to attend to support the memories of our loved ones who were victims of homicide. Everyone is encouraged to bring a blanket or chair to sit on Participants are invited to bring a photo or memorabilia of their loved one they are honoring . Free parking is available inside and around the park areas. The event is free to the public. Donations are welcome to help support the organization in providing services to survivors of homicide.

Community Writing Center Workshop
Flash-fiction, micro-fiction, postcard fiction, haibun, nanofiction, vignette . . . Can you tell a story using less than 1000 words? Less than 500? Less than 100? Explore character, conflict, setting and dialogue while finding ways to condense and strengthen your words. This two-session workshop will assist writers in discovering methods to present a large idea with a small amount of space. Cost: $30 and it will be held at the Community Writing Center (210 East 400 South) September 2 &9 (Th) from 6-8 pm.

Writing for Change
Does change in democracy require civic dialogue? If so, where is it and who gets to talk? OR write? Join the CWC, libraries, and guests to learn techniques of writing for change, such as Letters to Editors and Public Officials. Come with a concern; stay to write a letter with the help of CWC writing coaches. Workshop is open to the public. Cost: Free, but registration is required. This is a one day event on September 14 (Tu) and is from 6-9 PM. The event will be held at the Day Riverside Library (1575 W 1000 N)
