Gary Michaels here from 103.5 The Arrow. June is Men’s Health month. So over the next several weeks, we will be giving simple tips on air and here on our Your Health blog that you can use to help improve your health.

-Set a Goal to Start

The road to better health starts with some very simple baby steps. Like most things in life, just beginning is the hardest part. Set yourself a goal of when you want to start making small changes for your health. Go ahead, set a date and stick to it! You can’t reach the destination if you don’t get started.

-Portion Control

Once you’ve set a start date, begin with some easy baby steps. Let’s say you have a goal to lose a few pounds. That’s a pretty common goal that most of us have had at one time or another. A good first step would be portion control. Just eat a little less than you normally would. If you’re like me, you tend to eat everything that is on your plate. Make sure to put a little less on your plate. Once the food is gone, don’t go back for seconds. You still may feel a little hungry, but remember, there is a slight delay between when your stomach is actually full and when your brain thinks you’re full. Try to eat a little slower, that will reduce the lag time and help you avoid over eating.

-Smarter Food Choices

Food choices are another step to take on the road to eating a healthier diet and even losing weight. Begin by making one good food choice with each meal. Instead of chips, try fruit or vegetables. Try water instead of soda. Changing how you eat starts with making these small choices with each meal.
We all want to look and feel better. Since June is Men’s Health month, use this as a time to start down the road to better health. Take your first baby step this week!
