Summer Business Food & Fund Drive 2014

When you hear the phrase “Food Drive” most of us probably think of food drives during the winter months. What many people don’t realize is that hunger isn’t limited to one season. In fact, Utah Food Bank sees an increased demand during the summer months. It’s during the summer months that many children are out of school and don’t have access to school lunch programs. It is also during these summer months that donations are often at their lowest making it more difficult to feed those in need. That’s why Utah Food Bank’s Summer Business Food & Fund Drive is so important.

The Summer Business Food & Fund Drive is a way to get individuals and businesses involved in helping feed Utahans facing hunger during this critical time of year. Most businesses are still running at full capacity during the summer months which makes them a great source of support. Last year over 100 businesses participated and helped raise the equivalent of over 1.5 million meals. This summer, our goals are even more ambitious. The Utah Food Bank is working toward raising over 150,000 lbs. of food and over $200,000 in donations.

There are several ways that you and your business can help achieve these goals;

1. Give time: Volunteer your time at Utah Food Bank. You could deliver senior food boxes, sort food in their warehouse, or host food drives in your own neighborhood. Local food drives are a great way to encourage the community to get involved and help.

2. Give Food: Donate nutritious, non-perishable food items with an emphasis on products low in sodium, sugar, and corn syrup.

3. Give Money: For every 1 dollar donated Utah Food Bank can provide up to 8 dollars’ worth of goods and services to those in need. Giving money to Utah Food Bank is an excellent way to maximize every dollar.

Involving your business or workplace in Utah Food Bank’s Summer Business Food & Fund Drive is a great way to develop a team atmosphere in your workplace and help feed those in need during one of the most critical times of the year. Over 472,000 people in Utah are at risk of missing a meal today. You can help. For more information log on to Utah Food Bank’s web site at www.utahfoodbank.org.
