Bob Burns, a founding member of Lynyrd Skynyrd, died on Friday in a Georgia car cash. Burns was traveling in Cartersville, Georgia shortly before midnight when he came upon a curve and failed to negotiate it in his car. He crashed into a mailbox and tree and died at the scene. He was alone in the car. Police do not believe that he was under the influence of drugs or alcohol; it remains unclear whether the weather played a factor in the crash. Burns formed Lynyrd Skynyrd with Gary Rossington and Larry Junstrom in the mid-1960s and played drums on the band’s first two albums before leaving the band in 1974 citing mental health issues from being on tour. He was later diagnosed as being bipolar and received treatment, and went on to perform with his former band at their 2006 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction. Rossington said of his former friend on the band’s Facebook page, “Today I’m at a loss for words, but I just remember Bob being a funny guy.” He added, “My heart goes out to his family and God bless him and them in this sad time. He was a great, great drummer.” Copyright(c) 2015 RTTNews.com. All Rights ReservedLess «
