Scores of musicians are offering condolences and remembrances of the late B.B. King – the legendary blues guitarist who passed away recently at the age of 89. King, who was diagnosed with diabetes nearly 30 years ago, was hospitalized last month due to dehydration. Last October, he was forced to cancel eight tour dates for dehydration and exhaustion. “B.B. King was one of the few classic blues artists to have songs on mainstream radio,” Aerosmith guitarist Joe Perry said. “Because I was able to hear his guitar playing on the ‘The Thrill is Gone,’ it showed that given the right song you could sneak some great guitar sounds into [it].” Eric Clapton also shared some kind words about King. “I want to thank him for all the inspiration and encouragement he gave me as a player over the years and the friendship we enjoyed,” Clapton says. “There is not a lot left to say, because this music is almost a thing of the past now and there are not many left who play it in the pure way that B.B. did.
