The Rolling Stones have released an alternate version of “Dead Flowers” set to appear on the deluxe re-issue of the band’s 1971 album Sticky Fingers, due June 9. The recording went down at Olympic Studios in London in December 1969. Rolling Stone magazine notes that in the new version “Ian Stewart’s honky-tonk piano line is harder to hear, sounding more like straightforward chording.” According to the band’s site, both the deluxe and super deluxe versions of the re-issue include the alternative version of the chart-topping single “Brown Sugar” featuring Eric Clapton; unreleased interpretations of “B***h,” “Can’t You Hear Me Knocking” and “Dead Flowers”; an acoustic take on “Wild Horses,” and five tracks recorded live at The Roundhouse in 1971 including “Honky Tonk Women” and “Midnight Rambler.” The super deluxe edition will also house Get Yer Leeds Lungs Out!, the 13-track audio recording of the Stones’ gig in Leeds in March 1971, shortly before their exile in France began.
