The BBC has been accused of altering the historical record, after it cut a homophobic comment from a 1980 Top of the Pops episode featuring Roger Daltrey of the Who. Prior to a performance of the Village People, Daltrey remarks “watch your backs,” a comment that was edited out of recent reruns on BBC 4. Several Twitter users caught on and hit the social media cite to lambast the BBC – one user accused the network of trying to “airbrush history.” A rep for the network said that “Repeat showings of Top of the Pops are regularly edited for technical, running time or other editorial reasons.” Daltrey has not commented on the dust up.
