Signed by all four members of the Beatles, the petition was sent to screenwriter Terry Southern, who was in the process of adapting the book at the time. Others to sign included Marianne Faithfull, Anita Pallenberg and French director Christian Marquand. “We, the undersigned, do hereby protest with extreme vehemence as well as shattered illusions (in you) the preference of David Hemmings above Mick Jagger in the role of Alex in The Clockwork Orange,” the letter reads.
