Keith Richards performed “Gimme Shelter” at the Apollo Theater during A Great Night in Harlem benefit concert. Richard’s performance came in tribute of vocalist Merry Clayton. “Now you know how many friends you got, honey,” Richards told Clayton, strolling on stage, adding that he wanted to “kick it off with the one we worked together on.” Richards was accompanied by his backing band X-Pensive Winos, singer Sarah Dash, and Rolling Stones backup singers Lisa Fischer and Bernard Fowler. Video of the performance is available at Rolling Stone. Clayton added vocals to the original version of “Gimme Shelter.” Last year, she underwent a double amputation after a serious car accident.
