Ringo Starr raised money for charity over the weekend by auctioning some of his old Beatles gear. The haul included a drum set, which sold for $2.2 million. In total, the auction brought in almost $10 million for the Lotus Foundation. According to Rolling Stone, the set was purchased by Jim Irsay, owner of the Indianapolis Colts NFL team. The drum set was a 1963 Ludwig Oyster Black Pearl kit, with the iconic Beatles logo on the front. Ringo played it at hundreds of concerts and on studio recordings like “Can’t Buy Me Love.” The kit had been expected to go for somewhere between $300,000 and $500,000, the LA Times reported. The auction also included Ringo’s copy of the band’s White Album, the first pressing of the record with serial number A0000001, as well as a guitar given to him by John Lennon.
