Gorillaz founder Jamie Hewlett posted a cartoon of David Bowie to his Instagram page, leading many to speculate that the two acts could be headed for a collaboration. The picture features a throwback picture of Bowie wearing an eyepatch, along with the caption, “Bad David.” The Gorillaz previously featured the Bowie album, Hunky Dory on the sleeve of their own album Plastic Beach. Notice of the nod was picked up by Bowie and his reps who wrote, on Bowie’s website, “next time don’t be shy, feel free to contact us directly.” In October, Hewlett told DIY magazine that he was “shutting myself away” to work on Gorillaz’s fifth album. “I’m working on it at the moment, and it’s going very well.” Meanwhile, Bowie’s latest studio album, Blackstar, is due January 8.
