Rush drummer Neil Peart says that he’s done with the rock and roll lifestyle. In an interview with Drumhead magazine, Peart says that it was time to “take [himself] out of the game.” “Lately Olivia has been introducing me to new friends at school as ‘My dad– He’s a retired drummer,” he began. “True to say–funny to hear. And it does not pain me to realize that, like all athletes, there comes a time to . . . take yourself out of the game. I would rather set it aside then face the predicament described in our song ‘Losing It.'” Ahead of their recently wrapped R40 tour, Rush announced that it “will most likely be their last major tour of this magnitude,” and, more recently, Alex Lifeson and Geddy Lee noted that, in an interview on SiriusXM, performing had taken a severe physical toll on Peart’s body.
