David Bowie has released the music video for “Lazarus,” a cut from his upcoming album Blackstar. The vid, directed by Johan Renck (Breaking Bad) puts Bowie in a hospital bed with bandages on his eyes. “One could only dream about collaborating with a mind like that; let alone twice,” says Renck of the visual. “Intuitive, playful, mysterious and profound . . . I have no desire to do any more videos knowing the process never ever gets as formidable and fulfilling as this was. I’ve basically touched the sun.” “Lazarus” is also featured in a play written by Bowie and Edna Walsh. The play is at the New York Theatre Workshop where it runs through January 17. The plot centers on Michael C. Hall, who plays alcoholic alien Thomas Newton, the same character Bowie portrayed in The Man Who Fell to Earth.
