Tom Petty has announced that he is reforming Mudcrutch, the group he played with before the Heartbreakers. The band has not played since 2008, but now they’ll perform at the Summer Camp Music Festival in Chillicothe, Illinois, over Memorial Day Weekend, May 27-29. “Last time we were kinda under the gun because there was a big Heartbreakers tour coming up not long after that, so we didn’t have a lot of time,” Petty said of the band’s last reunion. “We kind of just ran up and down the West Coast real fast and did a fairly long stand at the Troubadour.” Mudcrutch features Heartbreakers guitarist Mike Campbell and keyboardist Benmont Tench, along with guitarist Tom Leadon – who left in 1973 and was replaced by Danny Roberts but returned for the 2008 reunion – and Randall Marsh. Summer Camp Music fest also features appearances from Umphrey’s McGee, STS9, the Roots, Thievery Corporation, Ani DiFranco, and George Clinton & P-Funk. Copyright(c) 2016 RTTNews.com.
