He would say ‘I never played this instrument before,’ and then he would cut loose and play. Pure genius.” De Strulle met Bowie in Los Angeles in 1970 when the Thin White Duke’s manager was attempting to land him a U.S. record deal. “To Be Love” is just one of the many demoes they created together.
