Joe Perry once asked Johnny Depp for guitar lessons, according to Alice Cooper. Perry, who, along with Depp and Cooper, are members of the Hollywood Vampires, a band dedicated to the memory of Cooper’s late drinking buddies Jimi Hendrix, Keith Moon and John Lennon, apparently saw Depp play guitar in a movie and was pretty blown away. “There’s a movie called Chocolat and he plays this gypsy guitar player,” Cooper told EON Music. “He does all this Django Reinhardt stuff – and it’s really him. It’s not somebody playing for him. Joe Perry heard that, and he called up and said, ‘Can I get guitar lessons from you?’ So that’s how good Johnny is.” The Hollywood Vampires released their self-titled debut album last year and will hit the road in Europe and North America this summer.
