A number of musicians, including Michael Stipe, Debbie Harry, Flaming Lips’ Wayne Coyne, Cyndi Lauper and Perry Farrell, have teamed up for a new tribute video to the late David Bowie. The tribute, entitled “David Bowie Was The Gateway Drug For Your Favorite Rockstar,” is a short film made by Okayplayer that was recorded backstage during the Carnegie Hall and Radio City Music Hall concerts, features all of the artists involved all remembering Bowie’s impact on the music world. “To us, he was one of the first performance artists that I saw, and that’s what I always wanted to be, and that’s what I think it is a lot of modern performers are. But he laid the train tracks,” Lauper says. The video also includes interviews with Laurie Anderson, Heart’s Ann Wilson, Cat Power, Esperanza Spalding, the Mountain Goats’ John Darnielle, Ricki Lee Jones, Gogol Bordello’s Eugene Hutz, Bilal and Robyn Hitchcock.
