Gene Simmons’ daughter Sophie has taken to the family business and become songwriter. Unlike her old man, however, Sophie has not landed in the rock genre but rather in hip-hop. She recently opened up with TMZ about the current state of her career. “I’m writing songs for everyone, which is great,” Simmons told the tabloid. “I’m working on my own EP but I’ve been writing songs for people lately. I just wrote a track for Rick Ross, which is hysterical.” It may come as an unexpected direction for Sophie following her dad’s harsh criticism of hip-hop. “I’m looking forward to music coming back to lyrics and melody, instead of just talking,” Simmons said. “A song, as far as I’m concerned, is by definition lyric and melody . . . or just melody.
