Mick Jagger, the lead singer of the Rolling Stones, recently revealed to The New York Times that the band currently has “half an album” of new material. He explained that the band had intended to go to work on an album of new material previously, but ended up composing the recently released Blue And Lonesome album instead after getting a bit sidetracked. The album was made up entirely of covers of famous blues songs. While the band was strategizing how to best record at British Grove Studios, guitarist Keith Richards began working on a cover of ‘Blue and Lonesome’ by Little Walter. The rest of the band got into the mood of the moment and followed that song up with one by Howling Wolf. Before they knew it, they had already recorded five tracks of blues covers.
