On his own birthday, Neil Young decided to give a gift to the water protectors at Standing Rock. The 71-year-old visited the site and performed for the activists. Young felt it was he who was receiving the gift. He took to social media and said, “Got my birthday wish today, my girl took me to #StandWithStandingRock #WaterIsLife.” Young went on to say, “Those who damage Mother Earth, damage us all, forgive them, they don’t yet see.” The activist songwriter posted videos of himself strolling through the crowds of water protectors playing his acoustic guitar and playing harmonica. Young released a song this past September called “Indian Givers,” which deals with the Dakota Access Pipeline. The song will appear on Young’s forthcoming LP, Peace Trail.
