The 39th Annual Kennedy Center Honors special aired on CBS on December 27 at 9PM ET. The event was pre-recorded on December 4 in Washington, D.C. Stephen Colbert hosted the event. James Taylor and the surviving members of the Eagles were among the musicians who were honored at the event, along with gospel singer Mavis Staples and pianist Martha Argerich. Sheryl Crow, Garth Brooks and Darius Rucker helped to honor James Taylor, by playing renditions of some of his songs. Rucker performed his rendition of “Carolina In My Mind” and Brooks performed “Shower The People.” The Eagles were originally selected to be honored in 2015, but deferred their participation to this year due to Glenn Frey’s poor health. Frey died in January at the age of 67. Don Henley paid tribute to Frey at the ceremony. “I want to dedicate this evening to our brother Glenn,” he stated. “He was so much a part of our success. He was the driving force in the band. He believed in the American dream.” Copyright(c) 2016 RTTNews.com. All Rights ReservedLess «
