Sales of David Bowie’s Blackstar helped push global sales of vinyl to twenty-five year highs. Sales in the U.K. topped 3.2 million, which was an increase of a whopping 53 percent over last year, according to the BPI. He was in good company rounding out a re-issue from Amy Winehouse and the soundtrack to the Guardians of the Galaxy film. Bowie’s release gained much attention for the album artwork, which designer Jonathan Barnbrook says is multi-layered. “There are a lot of other things going on that aren’t completely at the surface, but I do hope people see them – not necessarily straight away,” said Barnbrook earlier this year. “This thing of keeping the meaning open, I think is better. There’s one big thing which people haven’t discovered yet. Let’s just say, if people find it, they find it. If they don’t, they don’t.” 1) David Bowie – ‘Blackstar’ 2) Amy Winehouse – ‘Back To Black’ 3) Various Artists – ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Mix 1’ 4) Radiohead – ‘A Moon Shaped Pool’ 5) Fleetwood Mac – ‘Rumours’ 6) The Stone Roses – ‘Stone Roses’ 7) Bob Marley – ‘Legend’ 8) The Beatles – ‘Sgt Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band’ 9) Prince – ‘Purple Rain’ 10) Nirvana – ‘Nevermind’ Copyright(c) 2017 RTTNews.com.
