David Byrne has revealed plans for a new musical he is composing based on the life of Joan of Arc. The new work, titled Joan of Arc: Into the Fire, will feature a book, lyrics and music all composed by Byrne and is set to open at New York’s Public Theatre on March 15. Previews of the show will open in February and a press release calls it, “a thrilling and provocative new show” that “explores the electrifying, meteoric rise of Joan of Arc through the lens of a one-of-a-kind rock musical concert.” Byrne also made recent headlines as he dismissed rumors of a reunion of the new wave band, the Talking Heads. The frontman said a reunion would “probably be quite a number of steps backwards.” The Talking Heads split up in December 1991, but have come together since then to play a set to celebrate their induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2002.
