Plans have been revealed for a new posthumous release from Gregg Allman. The new album, titled Southern Blood, will drop on September 8 via Rounder Records and was recorded at the legendary Fame Studios in Muscle Shoals, Alabama. Allman’s camp has already released the lead single “My Only True Friend,” which is the only new original track on the release. Producer Don Was spoke about the album in a press release noting: “Gregg was thrilled that the sound in his head was manifesting itself on the tape,” producer Was says in a press release. “He didn’t have all the lungpower of his younger self, but we felt that these raw, weathered performances were honest and compelling.” The remaining tracks on the album are comprised of covers from Allman’s favorite artists including Bob Dylan and the Grateful Dead.
