The Late Show has released a bonus performance of Elton John playing “Benny and the Jets.” The new clip is taken from John’s appearance on the November 13 episode of The Late Show, where he performed “I’m Still Standing” and “Crocodile Rock.” The performance features a pair of piano solos from John. During his appearance, John also sat down for an interview with host Stephen Colbert in which he detailed the origins of his partnership with Bernie Taupin. “I was in a terrible band, not a terrible band, but a mediocre band, and I was getting fed up playing to people who were eating fish and chips,” John said. “I saw an advertisement from a record company that said, ‘singers and songwriters wanted’ … I was very chubby, I was shy, I wasn’t the lead singer, I was just the piano player in the band, but I was so fed up.” The 50th anniversary of the relationship between John and Taupin is celebrated on John’s recently released greatest hits album Diamonds.
