A statue of David Bowie that was just unveiled over the weekend in Aylesbury, UK was vandalized within its first 48 hours on display. The words “RIP DB,” and “Feed the homeless first” were spray painted on the ground in front of the statue and on the wall behind it. The project, titled “Earthly Messenger,” was spearheaded by concert promoter David Stopps, who also recently launched a campaign to rename the town after Bowie. Bowie debuted his Ziggy Stardust persona at a concert in the town in the early 1970s. “The reaction to the statue has been so positive,” Stopps told the BBC. “When you get something like this, people either love it or hate it. If people say ‘I hate it’ or ‘I absolutely love it,’ then you know it’s real art. That’s the definition of art.” The statue depicts Bowie in various stages of his life and career and Rob Stringer, head of Sony Music noted: “It’s actually a complete compendium of his life,” Stringer said. “To work with him on the last two records was very emotional, but I got to work with somebody who, when I was growing up in Aylesbury in the ’70s, was the pop culture legend.” Copyright(c) 2018 RTTNews.com.
