Legendary guitarist Stevie Ray Vaughan’s electric guitar sold at auction earlier this week for $250,000. It was auctioned in his hometown of Dallas through Dallas’ Heritage Auctions. The “Jimbo” 1951 Fender Broadcaster was used by the blues legend in his first studio recording and early performances. The winning bidder elected not to be identified immediately. Vaughan’s first professional-grade guitar has “considerable historical significance,” according to Vaughan biographer Craig Hopkins. The bluesman “pretty much learned his craft on” it. The guitar had been presumed lost for decades and shrouded in mystery, until the mid-2000s when it was recognized for what it was. “Jimbo” is carved on the back of the guitar as it was a gift from his brother Jimmie Vaughan in the late 1960s.
