Taron Egerton is set to play Elton John in Rocketman, to be financed and distributed worldwide by Paramount Pictures. The biopic captures Elton’s life from his days at the Royal Academy of Music to his rise on the rock ‘n’ roll scene of the 1970s and ’80s and his recovery from drug and alcohol addiction in the ’90s to international superstardom. The iconic singer’s influential and enduring musical partnership with his songwriting collaborator Bernie Taupin will be depicted in the film as well. Dexter Fletcher will direct the film, written by Lee Hall and produced by Matthew Vaughn and his Marv Films along with David Furnish and Elton John. Vaughn and Egerton had earlier teamed on both Kingsman films and on Eddie the Eagle, which Fletcher directed. Egerton will sing the songs himself, and sources said that everyone who has heard him has been blown away by the quality of his voice and its proximity to the subject. Elton is said to have told Taron, “Don’t copy me. Don’t think you have to sing it exactly the way that I sang it. Don’t think you have to perform it the way I performed it. I think it’s the challenge for the actor to embody the spirit and not get into thinking they have to do an impersonation.” Copyright(c) 2018 RTTNews.com. All Rights ReservedLess «
