Pacific University is set to honor Tommy Thayer by conferring him a doctorate of humane letters degree. The KISS lead guitarist has also been invited to deliver this year’s commencement speech at the undergraduate commencement ceremony, to be held at Hanson Stadium on the Forest Grove Campus on May 19. A local of Beaverton, Oregon, Thayer is a longtime Trustee of the University and a well-wisher. The Academy is honoring the rocker for his philanthropic leadership efforts, which have benefited thousands of Pacific student-athletes. He has helped the university generate more than $3.5 million for its NCAA Division III intercollegiate athletics program, primarily through a celebrity fundraiser Legends, the university said in a statement.
