Irish rock group U2’s tweet supporting legalization of abortion in Ireland has upset its pro-life fans. U2’s tweet “Repeal the 8th” is a reference to the upcoming Irish referendum on abortion. Ireland is going to vote on May 25 to possibly repeal Article 40.3.3 of the Irish Constitution which gives unborn fetuses the same right to life as the mother. Many fans signaled that they would no longer support the group and responded to U2’s statement by citing their stance as a violation of their Christian ethics. Some fans responded to the tweet by citing the band’s past support for the downtrodden and vulnerable in the society. “My tickets to upcoming shows will go unused,” one fan wrote.
