A statue of Led Zeppelin drummer John Bonham was unveiled in his hometown of Redditch, England on May 31, what would have been his 70th birthday. The six feet high sculpture, created by Mark Richards, stands 16 feet wide in Mercian Square. It weighs more than 5,000 pounds. The British sculptor said he is delighted that his memorial sculpture to John Bonham was installed in Redditch town center. “Thanks to all who helped make this happen,” he stated. The sculpture is engraved with the words: “The most outstanding and original drummer of his time, John Bonham’s popularity and influence continue to resonate with the world of music and beyond.” Bonham died at the age of 32 on September 25, 1980.
