Last week, country star Charlie Daniels held the Veteran Impact Celebration at the Grove at Williamson Place in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. The sold-out fundraiser was conducted to benefit the Daniels Center, an organization working to support student veterans and make their transition between veteran and military and civilian life as smooth as possible. The event, which was held on Thursday, June 28, raised a whopping $171,000 and featured performances by many student veterans and guest speakers, including retired U.S. Army Lt. Gen. Keith M. Huber. Just before performing two songs for the crowd, Daniels delivered a moving speech and was joined onstage by his manager David Corlew and Major General Terry Haston to present a check for $100,000 to MTSU’s Daniels Center, which is a 3,200 foot space in which approximately 900 student veterans can gather to study and have enriching conversations with one another. “People who have seen the bombs, the conflict, people being killed – a lot of other things seem very frivolous to them. They’re not concerned with who’s going to the dance with somebody next week.” said Daniels. “They’ve got more serious things on their mind. They can find somebody to talk with. It’s a place where they can get together and socialize.” Next year’s event is set to take place on Thursday, June 21, 2019, and preparations for the same are already underway.
