But let’s say you had a car like the 2018 Volkswagen Passat that can travel over 600 miles on a single tank, where would you go sightseeing?

1. Alpine Loop – 26.2 Miles

The Alpine Loop Starts at the Mouth of American Fork Canyon and exists at the Mouth of Provo Canyon. Open from May through October, The Alpine Loop takes you behind Mt. Timpanogos into an incredible forested area. If you want to make the most of this trip, take the extra 3-hour hike to Timpanogos Cave and take a tour. The hike is paved but can get pretty steep, and it’s recommended that you buy tickets for the 55 min tour online before taking the trip.

2. Logan Canyon Scenic Byway – 41 Miles

The Logan Canyon Scenic Byway stretches from Logan, UT, to the Garden City at the northern border between Idaho and Utah. It’s also the most scenic way to continue to drive to Jackson, Wyoming and continue on to Yellowstone National Park. With 31 sites and stops in the 48 miles between Logan and Bear Lake, the Logan Canyon Scenic Byway is a perfect road trip to take your family on. Tony Grove Lake, for example, has beautiful wildflowers growing year round and you might even catch a glimpse of a moose!

The corridor of the Logan Canyon Scenic Byway takes you through spectacular, craggy limestone cliffs. Those cliffs are alongside Logan River that is a blue ribbon trout stream. And Logan River is considered one of the best fly fishing streams in the intermountain region.

3. The All American Road – 150 miles +

If you find yourself on Scenic Byway 12 in southern Utah, you’ll realize the special place you have found. The road also known as the All American Road stretches between Panguitch, UT to Torrey, UT. It takes you through the breathtaking splendor of some of the most beautiful places in the state. The road runs from Hoodoos in Bryce Canyon National Park, then through Grand Staircase Escalante, past Navajo Sandstone, and ends with Capital Reef National Park. Then you can even stop at Anasazi State Park Museum where you will see ancient Native American pottery and reconstructions of ancient houses. This really is one of the best driving trips you can take in the state.

4. Dinosaur Diamond Prehistoric Highway – 512 Miles

Probably the trip filled with the most history in Utah, and the longest trip on our list, is the Dinosaur Diamond Prehistoric Highway. From Moab through Price and Vernal is Utah’s original “Jurrasic Park” then circle back around through Dinosaur, CO. Yes, a town called Dinosaur. Explore the museums and active dig sites, plus rock art along the way. Price’s CEU Prehistoric Museum is one of the most popular destinations with hundreds of fossils and history for you to explore. And Price’s CEU Prehistoric Museum is the only museum to feature the only Utah Raptor Exhibit. Then, Dinosaur National Monument. THE place to see real dinosaur fossils in the exact spots they have been for millions of years. This is one of the highest concentrations of dinosaur fossils being preserved in the stone they were found anywhere in the world.

Utah is An Amazing Place

Whether you are looking for a short drive or a multi-day trip, Utah will always have amazing scenery. Take the time to see it in a car like the Volkswagen Passat, a car with the gas mileage to make all of these trips on just a single tank of gas.
