The guitar played by George Harrison for the Beatles’ last appearance at the Cavern Club in Liverpool in 1963 is set to hit the auction block next month. The Australian-made Maton Mastersound MS-500 is expected to be auctioned for around $500,000 in Wilshire on September 12, according to auctioneer Gardiner Houlgate. A repair shop owner lent Harrison the Australian guitar as a stand-in while his regular guitar was being repaired. But the instrument turned out to be his favorite in no time, and he continued to use it for more performances. The Beatles legend returned the Gretch, which was bought by Dave Berry And The Cruisers guitarist Roy Barber. Gardiner Houlgate said that after Roy Barber’s death, his widow Val auctioned the guitar. “The guitar has since been exhibited at the Beatles Story museum in Liverpool from 2014-2018. The guitar is featured in Andy Babuik’s book, Beatles Gear: All The Fab Four’s Instruments, from Stage to Studio,” Houlgate said in a statement. Copyright(c) 2018 RTTNews.com.
