The Official Charts Company has named the Beatles’ masterpiece Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band as the most popular British album of all time. The 1967 classic was named Britain’s favorite album more than half-a-century after its release. The albums were ranked based on a combination of physical sales, downloads and streams in the U.K. The Fab Four’s eighth studio album has recorded a total of 5.34 million combined sales. Adele’s 21 finished second with 5.11 million, and Oasis’ (What’s The Story) Morning Glory came in third with 4.94 million album sales. Pink Floyd’s Dark Side Of The Moon, Michael Jackson’s Thriller, Fleetwood Mac’s Rumours and Amy Winehouse’s Back To Black also made it to the top 10. Dubbed by Rolling Stone as “the greatest rock & roll group of all time,” Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band celebrated its 50th anniversary with a deluxe reissue last year.
