The Beatles have released an acoustic demo recording of their hit song “While My Guitar Gently Weeps,” which will be part of the upcoming anniversary re-release of The White Album. The song, which was recorded on July 25, 1968, features George Harrison on acoustic guitar and Paul McCartney on harmonium. The song was written by Harrison and can be heard on the recording issuing instructions and singing, “I look from the wings at the play you are staging / As I’m sitting here doing nothing but aging.” The Beatles will reissue their self titled album, better known as the White Album on November 9, to celebrate its 50th anniversary. The White Album has been remixed and presented with additional demos and session recordings. The album’s 30 tracks are newly mixed by producer Giles Martin, who handled last year’s Sgt. Pepper reissue, and mix engineer Sam Okell in stereo and 5.1 surround audio. It will include 27 early acoustic demos and 50 session takes, most of which were previously unreleased in any form. The album will be released in standard editions, a deluxe edition that includes three CDs while another features four LPs, as well as a limited-edition super deluxe version that contains six CDs and a Blu-ray carrying multiple mixes, all packed in a hardback book.
