A 28-year-old man has been arrested for vandalizing the Ziggy Stardust statue at Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire. This is the second vandalizing incident in the six months following the unveiling of the statue just outside the Friars club, where David Bowie debuted his Ziggy Stardust persona in January of 1972. 48 hours after the piece was unveiled in March, vandals reportedly spray-painted on and around it, writing “Feed the homeless first” and “RIP DB.” Now, only one week after it was cleaned, the statue has been covered in blue paint and the police have arrested a likely suspect. Dubbed “Earthly Messenger,” the piece was funded by several crowdfunding campaigns headed by music promoter, David Stopps. “Bowie fans are coming from all over the world to see the statue and this really doesn’t do justice to the thousands of local people that supported this project,” said Stopps.
