Elton John’s AIDS Foundation raised $3.9 million at an annual music gala in Manhattan on Monday. The amount includes $100,000 collected from auctioning a signed Tony Bennett painting, and $87,000 for a photo of Elton from the iconoclast David LaChapelle. In addition, a photograph of Aretha Franklin’s performance at 2017 EJAF benefit show was sold for $100,000. Sheryl Crow was the musical guest for the 17th “Enduring Vision” benefit at Cipriani 42nd Street, where she performed a 45-minute set. Speaking on the occasion, John said he didn’t know how Aretha Franklin could possibly perform in the physical condition he saw her in. “And she raised the roof. I think it’s because she was inspired by being in the cathedral: She went to church, she went back to where she came from and she made us all weep. She gave us the performance of a lifetime,” he said of the music icon who died of cancer in August. Copyright(c) 2018 RTTNews.com. All Rights ReservedLess «
