Before embarking on an eight-date US tour, Mott The Hoople’s lead singer Ian Hunter reflected on the golden days of the English rock band. The tour is titled “Mott The Hoople ’74,” to highlight the presence of two other members of the group from the seventies: keyboardist Morgan Fischer and guitarist Luther Grosvenor a.k.a. Ariel Bender. Hunter spoke to Billboard in an interview last month. Asked what he feels about being the only original member involved, Hunter replied, “We can’t do anything about the guys who are no longer here, and Luther and Morgan are great. Luther has been stone-cold sober for a year and looks amazing, so you’ll be getting all of his excitement, which is about 120 percent above normal”. Hunter also said his relationship with David Bowie was “great,” telling Billboard, “He was very generous.” Mott The Hoople’s first U.S. tour in 45 years began on Monday.
