The Grateful Dead and Z2 Comics have teamed up to release a graphic novel that explores the band’s origins and its evolution as one of America’s most important and enduring rock bands. Titled Grateful Dead Origins, the graphic novel traces the early days of the band’s Jerry Garcia, Phil Lesh, Bob Weir, Pigpen, Bill Kreutzmann and Mickey Hart and recounts the group’s transformation over the years, from a bar band named The Warlocks to their emergence as flag bearers of jam-band culture. Chris Miskiewicz wrote the original story and Noah Van Sciver did the illustration work for the novel. “Chris and Noah have captured the Dead’s sensibility in their words and images that bring to life on the page the earliest days of the Grateful Dead, from the band’s founding in 1965 through to Woodstock,” said David Lemieux, the band’s audiovisual archivist. He added, “We couldn’t be happier to be partnering with such talented artists who have delved so deeply into the Dead’s history and origin.” The novel is slated to be released in early 2020 as a limited, oversized hard-cover deluxe edition as well as a standard soft-cover version. The hardcover edition, autographed by the comic creators, will come with a vinyl LP that features a selection of previously unreleased tracks from the band. Buyers of the standard edition will be given access to a digital download of the the band’s early recordings. Copyright(c) 2019 RTTNews.com. All Rights ReservedLess «
