A rare Beatles “butcher cover” of the album Yesterday And Today signed by John Lennon was auctioned in Liverpool last week. The controversial cover of the album, which is also signed by Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr, was sold for a whopping $233,511, much higher than the estimated price. It is the third-highest price ever paid for a vinyl record. Darren Julien, CEO/President of Julien’s Auctions, said it was also a world record for a Beatles “butcher cover.” “The market is still developing so we anticipate in the next five years this same record could bring $500,000 plus,” Julien said in a statement. The rare album — once owned by Lennon — went up for bid at a memorabilia auction at The Beatles Story museum on May 9. The LP was among more than 300 items related to the legendary band that were up for sale at the annual auction extravaganza, titled “Music Icons: The Beatles in Liverpool.” It was the first Beatles auction to take place at The Beatles Story.
