Queen has witnessed a spike in streaming of its music fueled by the blockbuster success of the biopic Bohemian Rhapsody. Bohemian Rhapsody grossed more than $900 million at the global box office and also grabbed four Academy Awards, including the best actor award for Rami Malek as frontman Freddie Mercury. According to Billboard, on-demand streams of Queen’s catalog more than tripled in the six month’s following the film’s release, skyrocketing from 588 million to 1.9 billion. Sales also rose from 527,000 to 1.9 million units and albums soared 483 percent, from 184,000 to 1.1 million units. Billboard estimates the sales resulted in “nearly $18 million in revenue versus the $4.4 million that Queen’s catalog had earned in the preceding six months.” Copyright(c) 2019 RTTNews.com.
