A Michigan man heard something strange early Thursday morning. He thought he was hearing an intruder breaking into his home, WXYZ in Detroit reports.
The man grabbed a gun, and when he saw the intruder, he pulled the trigger.
Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Office says the man shot and killed his wife, a mother of two.
Deputies took the man into custody.
WXYZ says that two children, ages 2 and 4, were inside the home at the time of the shooting.
Carnae Sanders, a cousin of the victim, told Fox 2 News that there is a hope that it was all a horrible accident.
“We hope that it was a mistake, we think that it was a mistake, we don’t think that he meant any harm to her or anything,” Sanders said.
A neighbor told Fox 2 News that the neighborhood dealt with little crime.
“We hardly ever lock our doors,” the neighbor, Alexandra Fullbright said.
As of Friday, the husband was still in police custody. Investigators have not yet filed charges against him.
