They said it couldn’t be done, which means someday it would be.
Running a marathon in under two hours has long been seen as a nearly impossible feat.
Much like running a mile in under four minutes, the marathon benchmark stood long before it was conquered.
Eliud Kipchoge holds the world record for running a marathon at 2:01:39.
Until this week.
He now holds the record, for now unofficially, at 1:59:40.

Kipchoge rightfully compares his accomplishment to landing on the moon.
Today we went to the Moon and came back to earth! I am at a loss for words for all the support I have received from all over the world.
Thank you to all who gave me the opportunity. Asante. pic.twitter.com/0HTVBjB6YY
