Now is your chance to own the socks worn for the first moonwalk.

No, not that moonwalk. It is the socks of Michael Jackson’s first on-stage moonwalk.

Jackson performed “Billie Jean” at a Motown Special concert in Pasadena, California on March 25, 1983. During the song, he did his soon-to-be-iconic moonwalk.

The show, “Motown 25: Yesterday, Today, Forever” wa broadcast on NBC on May 16, 1983.

Within weeks, children and adults all over the world were badly imitating the backwards walk.

If you hope to put the socks on and moonwalk across the kitchen floor, you will have to break open the commemorative case first.

According to the auction house, “Michael gifted the socks to his manager Frank DiLeo during the 1984 Victory Tour and wrote and signed a letter to Frank to accompany them. The socks are presented with the letter in a 21.25 x 6 x 19 plexi display box.”

The socks auction will start at $100,000. The bid is expected to rise up to $2 million by the end of the auction.
